Minor rape case involving Babush: victim’s medical report reveals intercourse

Medical examination of the 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped by 55-year-old St Cruz MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate is positive for sexual abuse.
The victim was referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) at Bambolim for medical examination after the FIR was lodged, said sources.
They said that a doctor at the GMC medically examined and opined that on physical/genital examination, there was an evidence of genital penetration like that in sexual intercourse.
In connection with the case, the bed sheet from Babush’s farmhouse and the victim’s clothes on which stains were found, believed to be that of blood, have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Hyderabad for examination along with blood samples of Babush and the victim girl for DNA test examination, sources said. The report is awaited. The police are banking on this particular evidence, which can ascertain whether Babush is involved in the crime, sources claimed.
It is learnt that after the medical examination of the victim, her supplementary statements were recorded at the GMC in the presence of the victim assistance unit wherein she disclosed the fact of the day of incident in detail.
Police has also conducted panchanama of the place of offence (farmhouse of Babush) in the presence of the victim, who has identified the place where she was sexually abused. Police has claimed that the bed sheet was attached from Babush’s farmhouse and the victim’s clothes, which had stains on them, from her friend’s house.
According to police, Babush has disclosed that he met the victim girl somewhere in the month of March 2016 at his house at Dondrem, Taleigao. The co-accused Rosy brought the victim girl to his farmhouse requesting Babush to provide her (victim) with a job.
From the statement of the victim girl before the victim assistance unit as well as before the JMFC, Panaji, under Section 164 CrPC, it is revealed that she has disclosed the sequence of the incident. However, the accused is not cooperating with the investigation process and has not disclosed the facts and circumstances of the case, police have claimed.
