Pre-monsoon showers lash Goa, as rains set to hit by Saturday

PANJIM: With the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala on Wednesday, the rains are expected to reach Goa by June 11, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting above normal rainfall for the State.
However, pre-monsoon showers lashed the State with thunder and lightning, leading to complaints of water logging, uprooting of trees and traffic jams. IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy showers over the next three days.
IMD Goa Observatory Director V K Mini said the monsoons will reach Goa by June 11. “The monsoons have become active over Goa, with heavy spells of pre-monsoon showers,” she said.
Mini said IMD has predicted above normal monsoon this year for Central India, including Goa. The State has already received 100 mm of rain this season.
The onset of the monsoon has been delayed by almost a week due to its delay in hitting the Kerala coast.
