No water supply to Tiswadi today as pipeline develops major crack

PANAJI: Residents of Tiswadi taluka will have to spend Wednesday sans water as the main pipeline supplying water to the taluka including the capital city has developed cracks.

Public Works Department (PWD) Executive Engineer Dileep Dhavalikar said that the main pipeline supplying water to Tiswadi from the Opa water treatment plant has developed a major crack at Banastarim.
The capital city of Panaji, Taleigao, St Cruz, Merces, Bambolim including the Goa Medical College and hospital, Siridao and Goa Velha suffered water shortage on Tuesday and will not receive water on Wednesday.
“PWD personnel are working round the clock to restore the water supply at the earliest. Excavation work is being carried out and then the pipeline would require welding,” Dhavalikar said.
He said that the work is time-consuming and welding of the breached pipeline would be completed during the wee hours of Wednesday. “We hope to restore water pumping and supply to the pipeline by Wednesday morning and supply to the areas will be restored subsequently,” he said.
Pumping of water into the pipeline supplying water to Tiswadi taluka was discontinued on Tuesday morning after the department was informed of the major breach. On Tuesday, parts of Tiswadi taluka had taps running dry while the city received restricted water supply during the day after the breakdown.
