Parsekar to lead party at polls: BJP chief

Panaji: Defence minister Manohar Parrikar will not contest the next assembly elections in Goa, neither will he return to state politics, BJP state president Vinay Tendulkar said on Monday. Parrikar will only campaign for the state elections, he added.

When asked to comment on a media report about Parrikar replacing chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar before the next assembly elections, Tendulkar said that Parrikar had already announced that Parsekar will lead the BJP in the upcoming assembly elections, but a final decision will be taken by the party's parliamentary board.
"We don't decide who will be the next chief minister of the state, that the parliamentary board will decide after taking the MLAs into confidence," Tendulkar said.
When asked whether Parsekar would be the party face during the election campaign, the state BJP chief said that there are many faces - Parsekar, Union minister for Ayush Shripad Naik and Parrikar. "Parrikar will not come to Goa to contest assembly elections as he is member of the Rajya Sabha," he added.
