Shah, Kejriwal in Goa today to pep up parties

BJP national president to address party workers; AAP chief to hold a series of meetings

PANJIM: With the 2017 elections inching closer, BJP and AAP will have a showdown of sorts on Saturday when their leaders – Amit Shah and Arvind Kejriwal – will visit the State. While Delhi Chief Minister and AAP founder Kejriwal is on a three-day visit from August 20 to 22, BJP national President Shah will spend just a few hours in the State.

This will be Kejriwal’s third visit to Goa in the last four months, while Shah is on his maiden trip to the State since taking over as BJP national president for the second time in January this year.
As per the schedule of the leaders, Shah will arrive at around 1.00pm and will address a workers’ meeting at Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee stadium at 4.30pm. During his two and a half hour long interaction, Shah is expected to launch the party’s election campaign. The local unit expects that their national president’s charisma will help the State replicate the Uttar Pradesh (UP) model of 2014.
Thereafter Shah will have a closed door meeting with BJP ministers and MLAs, chalking out strategies for the election. As per sources, Shah will take stock of his MLAs’ popularity and performance, which will be the ultimate deciding factor to grant party tickets for the upcoming elections.
“Shah will return to Delhi by the late Saturday night flight,” BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar said.
On the other hand, the state unit of AAP has announced that Kejriwal be will arrive on Saturday at 1.30pm and will have his first interaction with mining dependents at Usgao Tisk at 4pm. The following day, he will have a ‘tribal diaogue’ at Quepem Municipal hall.
From there, the Delhi Chief Minister will travel to Margao where he will participate in a women’s dialogue and later attend a private function.
On August 22, Kejriwal will hold a private meeting with his State unit members and will depart for Delhi at 1.00pm
