The Dirty Picture: Pimps arrest opens up a Pandora’s Box

Panaji: Goa with its sandy beaches, green vistas and unique architecture has increasingly provided a picturesque backdrop for Bollywood and other regional productions, but on the flip side, cases of actors and struggling starlets being caught in the web of sleaze are also slowly rising.
From the reel life to the harsh reality of some characters from the film industry trying to make quick bucks through various sex rackets to sustain their luxurious living has been exposed with several cases coming to light in police raids in Goa.

Speaking to TOI, crime branch superintendent of police Karthik Kashyap said police had rescued struggling and side actress from Bollywood, Bhojpuri cinema, regional films like Telegu, Malayalam etc. "Actress are choosing this path to supplement their lifestyle," he added.
The recent arrest of pimp Anand Kumar, native of Mumbai, has opened the Pandora's Box about the dirty picture. It has come to light that actors, TV stars and models contacted Kumar to arrange customers for them.
Arz is a Goa-based NGO, which assists police in rescuing the girls from flesh trade. Its director Arun Pandey said that most actresses in Mumbai and Andra Pradesh film cities who get roles as extras are pushed into prostitution. They get in touch with the pimp if there is a slowdown in the film industry to sustain the lifestyle.
Police said that it is not only Goa where actress are been supplied to customers for sexual activities but as Goa police conduct regular raids, actress are been rescued in the state.
Last month, A Bhojpuri actor was among five girls rescued by the crime branch of the Goa police. The police arrested two pimps, Rajeshwar Pawar and Raju Maidali, as well.
In June, an inter-state high- profile sex racket involving some actors and models, was busted by the Goa police. The inquiry revealed a model or actor would charge between 5 lakh to 20 lakh per customer, who were mostly from the corporate world or political functionaries.
Last year, Panaji police busted a high-profile prostitution racket in the city and rescued a Bollywood actress who claimed to have worked as a side actress in Hindi movies like Dabangg 2 and OMG.
Panaji police also arrested pimp Ayesha Sayyed, 30, a resident of Mumbai, in the case.
