CAVELOSSIM: While the district administration is busy preparing for the BRICS Summit, a starred hotel, one of the venues for the summit, finds itself in the middle of a fresh controversy this time over alleged illegal land-filling of low-lying area along river Sal.
The villagers have threatened to file a complaint with GCZMA, Goa State Pollution Control Board and other government departments over the alleged illegal activity.
Speaking to this daily, president of Cavelossim villagers forum Iris Passanha said that the pollution control board had directed the hotel to remove a sewage pipe that flows directly into the river, however the hotel ignored the directives and used heavy machinery to fill the low-lying bank of the river.
He said that “now, we have no option but to complain to the GCZMA, pollution control board and other government departments against the illegal land-filling and such acts will not be tolerated.” Officials from the hotel were not available for comments.
