Security guard confesses to raping woman

PANJIM: The statement of the 51-year-old woman, who was allegedly assaulted and raped by a young security guard, will be recorded before a judicial magistrate even as the accused has confessed to the offence.
A native of West Bengal, 23-year-old Sanjay Kumar Mallik was arrested within six hours of the offence on Thursday.
“We will approach the judicial magistrate seeking permission to allot a day for recording the victim’s statement under Section 164 of the CrPC. The accused has confessed to committing the crime,” investigating officer PSI Sachin Narvekar told Herald.
Police have confirmed that Mallik, hired by a reputed security agency in Goa, does not have criminal antecedents either at his native place or in Goa, other than the present one. He is, however, addicted to alcohol. “His family background and related details are being verified though,” the officer added.
As per the complaint, Mallik allegedly raped the woman after assaulting her, and fled with a gold chain and mobile worth Rs 40,000 approximately. The incident took place in broad day light in a building on MG Road. Police said recoveries were made at his instance. Mallik has been remanded to five days police custody.
