Ordinance for regularisation of illegal houses in July assembly session: Mauvin

VASCO: South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) chairman Mauvin Godinho said that the ordinance pertaining to regularisation of houses constructed on comunidade, private and government land will be promulgated during the assembly session to be held in the month of July, giving a sigh of relief to thousands of people in the state.
Godinho was addressing media after launching construction work of retaining wall in the landslide-prone zone at Chaferan, Merces Vaddem in Dabolim constituency on Tuesday.
Mormugao municipal councillors Kritesh Gaonkar, Gaurish alias Shridhar Mardolkar, former councillor Clifford Vaz, Ligorio Monteiro, Ajay Thorat, Vishnu Kerkar were also present. Godinho highlighted that regularisation of houses existing on the comunidade, private and government land especially in Dabolim constituency was a promise made by him to the people in his election manifesto.
“I have constantly pursued the issue of regularisation of houses during the assembly sessions in the last several years and now the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has decided to issue an ordinance in that regard,” Godinho said.
As regards construction work of the retaining wall at Chaferan, Merces Vaddem, Godinho said that the people from the area always live in fear of landslides during monsoons.
“In view of the safety of the people, I directed the PWD authorities to initiate necessary steps to construct a retaining wall in the landslide-prone area of Chaferan,” said Godinho. The total estimated cost of the retaining wall is around Rs 11.5 lakh.
He further said that he recently held a meeting with the government officials to chalk out plans for the pre-monsoon work in Dabolim constituency.
Ward councillor Kritesh Gaonkar said that retaining wall was a long-pending demand of the people in Chaferan area.
