PANAJI: Goa police department has initiated departmental inquiry against police inspector Nilesh Rane and police constable Vinod Naik, both of whom were reportedly accused of seeking sexual favours and extortion by a victim who was rescued from prostitution racket.
Rane is currently posted at Sanguem police station whereas Naik is posted at Calangute.
It is learnt that both the policemen were accused of extortion and seeking sexual favuors by a northeastern victim who along with another woman was rescued from flesh trade by the Anjuna police in April this year. Sources informed that the victim had named Rane and Naik in her statement before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Mapusa.
A senior officer informed that based on the SDM report as well as the internal inquiry, the Goa police department has initiated a departmental inquiry against the two policemen.
However, the senior officer ruled out registering an FIR against Rane and Naik claiming there was no formal complaint lodged against the policemen.
Incidentally Rane was earlier posted at Calangute police station. Subsequently he was transferred to Special Branch (SB), Panaji and currently he is posted at Sanguem police station. Naik too was transferred from Calangute police station to Valpoi police station. But no sooner, North Goa SP was transferred; Naik managed a comeback and got a posting in Calangute police station.
