Movie, TV actresses’ role in sex racket plays out

Girls were supplied to starred hotels; main operator Andy was wanted in several cases in Goa and Maharashtra

PANJIM: In an interesting revelation into the prostitution racket busted late Wednesday night, the alleged involvement of a side actresses and models has surfaced. Most of them were supplied to starred hotels in Goa and the neighbouring states.
In raids, conducted by the Women’s Police Station and Crime Branch, at three places – Ribandar, Dona Paula and Bambolim – five persons were arrested and one girl rescued. The raids fetched the sleuths some incriminating material pointing out to the flourishing illegal trade.
“We have seized mobile phones, diaries and other records. The diaries have mentioned names, contact numbers and ‘rates’ of some actresses (side actresses working in television and movies) and models,” Crime Branch SP Kartik Kashyap said at a press briefing on Thursday. “The girls were procured from Mumbai,” Kashyap said, when asked for further details.
Of the five persons arrested, Anand Kumar alias Andy alias Chetan (46) is said to be the main operator. Kashyap said that Andy has a history of criminal cases, including under The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act at various police stations in Goa and Maharashtra. “He was wanted in several cases,” he added.
The police managed to zero in on him, also based on statements from the victims of commercial sexual exploitation who were rescued in previous raids. The officer conceded that the raids conducted by CB and local police stations in the recent past were linked with the present ones. “The victim girls (of previous raids) had disclosed the accused’s name during their testimony recorded before the panel at the Protective Home, Merces,” he said.
Andy’s other associates, Naga Pramodh Kumar alias Dumbu (23), resident of Andhra Pradesh, Indradev (19), Ramudesh (24) and Satosh (22), all from Bihar were also caught. The three Bihar natives were deployed as security guards at Caranzalem where the rescued victim was housed. Another accomplice is yet to be traced.
In the first raid at Ribandar on Wednesday, the apartment rented out to Andy and his family was raided. Sources reveal that the illegal trade was also allegedly operating from the flat. The owner was questioned and has prima facie been given a clean chit.
In subsequent raids, Pramodh was trapped from Bambolim. The teams managed to lay their hands on the prime accused at the rented premises based on Pramodh’s confession.
