PMO seeks report over complaint filed on MoI issue

PANAJI: The Prime Minister’s Office has communicated with the state government, directing its department of education to submit an action taken report within three weeks, pertaining to a complaint about the Medium of Instruction (MoI) issue.
The particular complaint informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Goa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party went for reversal in its MoI policy, after coming to power, and refused to withdraw the grantsbeing given to 100-odd English primary schools in the state.
The complaint sent by Pranav Lele, son of the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) leader, Ratnakar Lele, at the beginning of the year was received by the PMO on January 30, 2016. The PMO took action on the complaint on June 8, 2016, responding through an interim reply sent to the complainant: “Grievance was already manually sent to the directorate of education, Porvorim-Goa and requested to conduct necessary inquiry in the matter and to send the action taken report within 3 weeks.”
Director of education G P Bhat, however, told this daily that he is unaware of receipt of such a communication.
The convenor of BBSM and state in-charge of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Subhash Velingkar stated that although he is aware of this four-month old communication between Lele and the PMO, he is ignorant about the related response of the state government to the PMO.
The complainant, on his Facebook page has, however, stated that the communication from the PMO is lying with the office of the state secretary for public grievances.
