PANJIM: Taking its campaign against the Goa government further, Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) is set to form a committee headed by Uday Bhembre to decide its future political strategy.
However, it does not appear likely that BBSM will float a party before the 2017 Assembly elections.
The manch, which had extended support to the BJP in the 2012 Assembly elections, has now decided to challenge the same party over the latter’s U-turn on the Medium of Instruction (MoI) and other crucial issues.
“The committee will be headed by Bhembre with an aim to decide the political strategy of BBSM considering the upcoming State Legislative Assembly elections. Support to like-minded candidates in the elections is one option that will be considered by the committee,” BBSM leader Pundalik Naik said.
Considering that elections, which are due in March 2017 could be held earlier, BBSM is also expected shift its October 2 deadline of declaring its political plans. As part of its ongoing anti-government campaign, BBSM has been boycotting all State functions and protested during the Revolution Day function by staging a hunger strike outside the venue.
BBSM Convener and RSS Chief in Goa Subhash Velingkar has also quit from the 109-member committee formed to hold chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s 60th birthday celebrations.
