Govt gets notice over casino licence

Panaji: The high court of Bombay at Goa, on Tuesday, issued a notice to the government in connection with a petition filed by an NGO, GenNext, seeking a directive to the state government not to issue a casino licence to a 5-star hotel.

Durgadas Kamat, chairman of GenNext, said that they have objected to the hotel building a new structure for casino operation. A complaint was filed with the home department but no action was initiated. "Hence, we have moved the court to stop the activity. A new structure has been put up, and in its support, the town and country planning department has issued a technical order. This order is being challenged", Kamat said.
The government is on the verge of giving the licence as it has become BJP's policy to support the casino industry at all cost, he alleged.
