Panaji: A 35-year-old man was arrested by the Old Goa police on Tuesday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl at his residence.
Police said the accused, Ashish Parodkar, 35, used to pay the survivor 10 to come to his house, where he would then rape her.
The incident came to light when the survivor's elder sister noticed her visiting the house of accused. She immediately followed her younger sibling and was stunned to see that on the pretext of paying her 10, he removed her clothes and began touching her private parts.
The elder sister reported the incident to her mother, who immediately lodged a police complaint.
After registering the case under IPC Section 376, the Goa Children's Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the accused was arrested by the police.
In her statement, the survivor said the accused had called her to his house at least five times.
Reports of the medical examination conducted on the survivor at the Goa Medical College (GMC) and hospital, Bambolim, are awaited, police said.
Police will produce the accused before a local court to seek his custody for further investigation.
