No variants and change in pao prices till July 24

Panaji/Margao : The price of pao will remain unchanged at 3, president of the All Goa Bakers Association (AGBA) Agapito Menezes said even as the All Goa Bakers and Confectioners' Association (AGBCA) made available two variants of pao to consumers on Friday in some parts of South Goa.

AGBCA had announced two varieties of pao - 30 grams, to be sold at 3, and 50 grams, to be sold at 5.
Maintaining that the price increase announced by the AGBCA is not feasible, Menezes said, "5 is too high. You can't wake up one morning and say the price of pao has increased. There has to be some sort of balance."
"It's not feasible to have two sizes of pao. We will hold a general body meeting on July 24 to decide the price. The size will remain unchanged," he also said.
President of AGBCA Peter Fernandes acknowledged that customer response for the dual-sized paos was lukewarm. The present variety of pao costs 3 and weighs between 40-45 grams, sometimes even 50 grams.
"The statements made by (our rival association) stating they wouldn't cooperate with us in increasing the price-hike created confusion in the minds of customers, and thus the poor response," Fernandes told TOI.
Though the response was not good on Friday, Fernandes said its members would continue selling the pao in both varieties.
There are around 1,200 bakers in the state of which 500 are members of the AGBA.
