Woman takes ill on board flight, dies

Panaji/Vasco: Oman Air flight 251, en route to Chennai, was forced to make an emergency landing at the Goa international airport, Dabolim, on Thursday, after a female passenger fell ill on board. The Muscat-Chennai flight was given priority landing at the naval controlled airbase and the woman was rushed to Chicalim's Cottage Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

"A medical emergency landing did take place at around 7am. Oman Air's flight from Muscat was diverted to Goa after a passenger reported sick mid-air," Goa airport director, Bhupesh Negi, said.
The woman, Al Maskari Shaekha Jumma Rathi, 66 was travelling with her family members, airport officials said. Her son and two other persons were travelling with her including a maid.
The Dabolim airport did all emergency arrangement and kept the ambulance ready. She was declared dead on arrival by Cottage Hospital doctors, officials said. The postmortem was conducted at the GMC, hospital and the doctors informed the Dabolim police that the deceased died due to cardiac arrest. The body is preserved at GMC.
The Boeing 737-800 Oman Air plane was allowed to continue its scheduled journey to Chennai. tnn
