Zenito gets 3 yr RI in 2009 gang war case

MAPUSA : The additional sessions court at Mapusa on Friday sentenced history-sheeter Zenito Cardozo to three years of imprisonment for attacking two persons. The gruesome incident that took place at Siridao beach in 2009 saw two being killed.

The case of the prosecution was that accused Cardozo, his associates Mahavir Nadar and Domnic Nazareth killed Santosh Kalel of Zuarinagar and Johnny Fernandes of St Cruz following a heated arguments at a shack at Siridao beach.
The two rival groups attacked each other with glass bottles and knives. Kalel, of the Mirand gang, died on the spot. Fernandes died while undergoing treatment at the Goa medical college and hospital (GMC), Bambolim
Agacaim police had registered a case of murder against Cardozo and his associates for killing Kalel and a case of attempt to murder against Mirand, Fernandes and other unknown persons in the attack on Cardozo and his associates.
The court in its judgment has discharged Cardozo from murder charges and has held him guilty for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The court has observed that the murder was not pre planned and happened due to instant fight. The court has acquitted co-accused Nadar and Nazareth of all charges.
The additional sessions court judge Vijaya Pol convicted and sentenced Cardozo to undergo three years rigorous imprisonment under section 304 (II ) and another three year of rigorous imprisonment under section 326 with a fine of 10,000 following the death of Kalel and Fernandes.
