2 students drown at Mapusa spring

PANJIM: A picnic party ended on a tragic note at Khorlim, Mapusa when two schoolboys drowned in a spring. They had gone there with friends.

According to Mapusa Police, the incident took place around 12.30 pm when a group of boys went to Khorlim spring. While the boys were chilling out in the water, the victims, Krishna Nishad, 9, Class IV student of Government Primary School and Saurabh Kumar Gupta, 11, Class VI student were caught in a "whirlpool". The deceased were residents of Ganga Nagar, Khorlim.
One of the boy's from group went around in the vicinity shouting for help when he noticed that his friends were gasping for breath and were trying to stay afloat. However, some locals jumped into the water in a bid to rescue them but unfortunately they managed to fish out only the bodies.
Meanwhile, Mapusa police who were informed about the incident rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the District hospital. PI Mapusa Police Station informed that they have conducted panchanam and bodies were sent for post-mortem to GMC, Bambolim.
