PANAJI: Informing that every year, around 2,500 youth including 1,500 completing education related to information technology, would be available for employment at the proposed ESDM (Electronic System Design and Manufacturing)/ Electronic City at Tuem, and the IT Park at Chimbel, which are expected to create 15,000 to 20,000 jobs, the Chief Minister on Wednesday said that the anchor units are expected to start functioning at the ESDM/ Electronic City by March 2017.
“The type of jobs will depend on which kind of IT industries will arrive in these two places,” he added, pointing out that till date, four anchor units have sent their proposals to the government.
The Chief Minister, replying to IT-related question from Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, during the Question Hour said that annually around 200 local students graduate in engineering, in IT/ computer branch, while 1,300 students pass out from IT-allied fields with diplomas, B Sc in electronics and computer science, and so on. “In addition, there are SSC and HSSC pass students, who can be trained in IT skills, which may be numbered around 1,000,” he added.
The Chief Minister further said that the Goa Infotech Corporation Ltd, which is the implementing authority for the two projects, has already appointed consultants for them. He also stated that both the projects have capacity to generate IT-related employment.
Speaking further, Parsekar said that the government has submitted a detail plan of the ESDM/ Electronic City to the Centre on July 20, 2016, for its approval.
