MGP ready to go it alone if required: Lavoo

PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) announced that they are ready to fight the 2017 elections alone if the need arises. Stating that they do not want a repeat of the 1999 situation, where the party had to break the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the last minute, he said MGP is preparing to fight the Assembly elections alone.

Addressing the media, MGP MLA Lavoo Mamledar said, “Since 2012 I have been saying that our party should prepare to contest the elections alone. We don’t want a situation similar to 1999 to take place, where we had to go hunting for candidates at the last minute.”
“We have eight seats in the alliance and we will demand for more seats,” he said, adding that the existing seats will stay with the party. “The ones with MGP will remain with MGP, and we will demand for more. The BJP is acting and behaving as if they do not need an alliance to form the government,” the Ponda MLA added.
He also said that on Thursday, MGP will have a meeting with the party workers and MLAs but did not provide details of the meeting.
