Vasco gang war: Youth held for helping two accused escape

Vasco: Vasco police arrested 18-year-old Saroj Rohan on Thursday evening for helping two accused in the alleged gang war outside the Vasco police station on Wednesday evening escape.
At around 7pm on Thursday, Rohan was assaulted by the public near Santoshi Mata temple at New Vaddem, which led to his arrest.

The police said that earlier in the day, two of the eight accused Mehboob Shaikh and Sudhir Kerkar approached Rohan and asked him to accompany them to Margao railway station in the afternoon. At around 3pm, Rohan left the duo at the station. It is suspected that they planned their getaway and boarded the Nizamuddin Express. Back at New Vaddem, an mob cornered Rohan and questioned him as to why he helped the accused escape and assaulted him.
The alleged gang war has instilled fear in the minds of the local residents with many fearing to venture out in the nights. Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, "I have been busy since morning discussing Vishnu Surya Wagh's health condition with doctors. His condition is critical and we are trying our best to provide him wit the best services."On the gang war issue Parsekar added, "It is too bad that such an incident has taken place outside the Vasco police station. I will ask officials to conduct a proper inquiry and nab the accused."
Parsekar added, "In Vasco, drugs are available within the jurisdiction of educational institutions which is very saddening."
Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida said, "Such attacks outside the police station is not possible without the help of the police. They should immediately take action against the culprits." To this Parsekar added, "An inquiry will be made and if any police staff is found guilty then action will be taken."
Police have been searching for the eight accused who assaulted Santana Correia outside the Vasco police station on Wednesday evening when he had come to lodge a complaint against them for initiating fights.
These fights have taken ugly face in Vasco wherein public is scared of gang wars again breaking out in the port town in view of the upcoming assembly elections.
