BJP does a la Jio, doles out data and talk time to youth

Panaji: The BJP-led government in the state will give youths mobile connections to connect with them ahead of the 2017 assembly elections. The 'digital Goa plan' is directed at those between the age of 18 and 35.
Addressing over 700 members of the BJP yuva morcha, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the government will roll out mobile connections for the youth. "We are working on one more plan. We have not yet finalized the name for the plan. For your information, we have called it 'digital Goa plan'. Under this plan, we are going to give 3G or 4G connection. It will include 100-minutes of free talktime and minimum 1 GB of data," Parsekar said. The scheme will be launched in November.

The government will float a tender to invite bids for providing connections in the state. The announcement was received with applause by the youths. "We will issue short tender to select the bidder for the scheme," Parsekar said.
"So far, we have rolled out schemes for senior citizens, farmers, artistes, but we felt that we have not done much for the youths, and that is the reason this facility will be provided to youths between the age of 18 to 35," he said, adding the scheme can be availed by students, those who have passed out from college, and those who are working.
Two days ago, the chief minister had received a representation from the party's youth wing that government should provide free Wi-Fi in colleges. Parsekar assured the youth that it will provide Wi-Fi service in all colleges within a month.
Further he urged the youths to take up entrepreneurship rather than joining government services. Parsekar also appreciated students for repaying interest-free loans availed by them for pursuing higher education.
