Cong slams police for double standards in probing cases

Says high-profile cases are given preference, while common people are ignored

PANJIM: The Congress party has slammed the Goa Police for “adopting double standards” in investigating the criminal cases.
Party General Secretary and Spokesperson Sunil Kawathankar asked the Goa Police why there was no headway in other murder cases which is reported in past and how come the high profile murder case of perfumer is detected within two days.

“I congratulate Goa Police for detecting the murder case of Monica Ghurde, but at the same time I want to put it on record that common people have been denied the same justice,” he said.
Kawathankar said that Sunita Lamani was killed brutally in a broad daylight few months back. Police have failed to nab the culprits even after six months have passed.
The same energy should be applied in all cases. Another murder cases which has reported in South Goa has no clue, he said.
“Goa Police have become the agents of this government; they act on government orders. Only high profile cases have been given the special treatment, whereas common people have been denied justice,” he said.
Kawathankar urged Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to direct the Goa Police to be impartial in investigating criminal cases. Parsekar holds the home portfolio.
Kawathankar said that there are number of such cases which are pending at different police stations and agencies. “We will expose them at the right time.”
Kawathankar said that Congress party in past had also raised the issue of improper structure of security agencies in the State and had also written to the home department.
“Unfortunately there was no response from the home department. We had submitted details of how the criminals are operating security agencies and even how the security guards have been employed without any cross verification,” he said.
