Margao/Quepem: Congress organized a rally against the proposed nationalization of rivers in South Goa on Sunday.
The rally that took off from Nagoa, Verna, passed through Navelim, Chinchinim, Assolna, Cavelossim, Carmona, Orlim, Varca, Benaulim and Colva before culminating at the Congress’ South Goa district office at Margao.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Luizinho Faleiro, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar, were among those who addressed the gathering at Margao.
The speakers castigated the BJP government for not consulting the stakeholders before taking any decision regarding nationalization of Goan rivers, as assured by the chief minister.
Charging the government with having a “hidden agenda”, the speakers stressed on the need to protect and preserved the rivers for posterity.
The rally is being seen an attempt by the Congress government to galvanize its rank and file ahead of the 2017 assembly polls.
In Curchorem, Faleiro announced that Congress party will produce a chargesheet against the BJP government’s U-turns and failed promises during its four-and-half years rule on October 17, 2016.
Leader of opposition, Pratapsingh Rane criticized the BJP government for creating communal disharmony in the state, especially in Curchorem, reminding how the party tried to dislodge him as chief minister by creating ‘goondagiri’ then.
