MARGAO: In a broad daylight theft, cash and gold ornaments worth around Rs 12 lakh were stolen from a house at Navelim on Tuesday afternoon. Thieves gained entry into the house by breaking open the front door while the occupants were out.
Upon a complaint by Sheela Parceker, Margao police visited the house, conducted panchanama and registered a case. According to Margao police, Parceker was at her shop while her children were in school when the theft was committed.
After returning home, Parceker found the front door broke open while two cupboards inside were ransacked with clothes and other material strewn on the floor. A dog squad and finger print expert was also pressed into service, said police.
According to sources in police, stolen booty included cash of Rs 1.45 lakh besides a chain, finger rings, bracelets and other gold items.
