Tilamol locals allege illegalities in road work

QUEPEM: Tilamol parishioners, shopkeepers and others protested against the tourism department's beautification work, alleging that the ongoing road widening project will lead to the demolition of three shops in the church building.

Protesters gathered at the junction opposite the Our Lady of Poor Church and shouted slogans against the government, waving placards demanding justice. Villagers tried to stop the construction work of the drainage system, which partly passes through church property.
Tilamoll church attorney Flaviano Barreto told TOI that Xeldem panchayat passed the department's beautification project within just four days, but without taking church authorities into confidence. The project work has been partly completed on the Margao-Curchorem road.
Neither the PWD nor the town and country planning department have approved the tourism department plan, which is in violation of the law.
