Goan cricketer beaten up; assault filmed & circulated on social media

PANJIM: Goan cricketer Gajanan Azgaonkar was brutally attacked by goons in Taleigao and the attack filmed and later circulated on a social media website.


Azgaonkar has filed a police complaint at Panjim police station whereas another complaint for circulating the video has been filed at the Cyber Cell of Crime Branch.
Panjim Police have booked two persons, Sanesh Haldankar and Rakesh Rajesh, both residents of Taleigao under non-cognizable sections and forwarded the complaint to the sub divisional magistrate of Tiswadi to register a chapter case against the accused.
The accused and the victim reside in the same locality. The assault and its filming had occurred some 15 days ago.
Police Sub Inspector Arun Dessai, who is investigating the case, said that based on the complaint a non-cognizable offence has been registered and an application sent to sub divisional magistrate of Tiswadi.
Panjim Police Inspector Siddant Shirodkar said that a chapter case will be registered against both the accused for the preventive action once the magistrate approves it.
Azgaonkar is a cricketer associated with Goa Cricket Association and also in the Goa Premier League in past.
