PANAJI: Stating that corruption starts with birth of a person and that it exists in every country, newly appointed Goa Lokayukta Justice (retired) P K Mishra said on Thursday that each one adopting change from within with honesty and sincerity could be the best solution to eliminate corruption from the society.
Earlier on Thursday, Governor Dr Mridula Sinha administered the oath of office to Justice Mishra during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, Public Works Department Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar, Minister for Factories and Boilers Pandurang Dhavalikar, Minister for Tourism Dilip Parulekar, Deputy Speaker Vishnu Wagh and other senior officers were present during the ceremony.
Speaking to reporters after the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Mishra said that prima facie, Lokayukta is a recommending body and action should be taken by the competent authority on the recommendation of the Lokayukta’s office. He said that though he had not gone through the Goa Lokayukta Act, it would be a new challenge for him to work as the Lokayukta of the state.
Justice Mishra, who will be taking charge soon, is the second Lokayukta of Goa. The post was lying vacant since October 17, 2013, when the first Lokayukta Justice (retd) B Sudarshan Reddy had resigned citing personal reasons. Justice Mishra has also served as chairman of the Goa State Human Rights Commission.
Meanwhile, stating that the Lokayukta office would be shifted to the old Goa Medical College complex after a month and that the government has already commenced the work of furnishing the premises, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the Lokayukta will be presently functioning from the office located at Altinho in the city till the new premises gets ready.
