Washed bedsheet still has bloodstains and ‘sticky substance’; CB confident of nailing Babush
PANJIM: The Goa Crime Branch is confident that it has gathered very strong evidence against St Cruz MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate to prove the rape case against him
“Although the process of collecting evidences is long, at this stage within 48 hours, we have collected very strong evidence,” a senior Crime Branch officer told Herald.
Sources in the Crime Branch said they have seized linen (bed sheet) from the cupboard of Babush’s farmhouse in Taleigao, as per the description of the object given by the victim, recalling the day she said she was raped in one of the bedrooms of the farmhouse.
Sources also said that although the linen has been washed there still blood stains and remnants of some sticky substance on the linen. The girl in her statement before the victim’s assistance unit had stated that she had seen blood stains and some sticky material when she woke up from her sleep, in the MLA’s farmhouse. It is then that she realised something was terribly wrong.
The Goa Crime Branch, which is the supervisory department of the Goa Women’s police station, which is investigating the rape case, has refused to divulge any further information on the investigation. Superintendent of Police Crime Karthik Kashyap, refused to comment on vital evidence collected during the panchanama on May 5 at the farmhouse.
However, sources said that Monserrate’s DNA samples have been collected to collaborate with the forensic evidence.
Monserrate was arrested by Crime Branch on Thursday after he surrendered. He has been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl at his farmhouse in Taleigao after mixing drugs in her drinks, as well as indulging in trafficking.
