‘Parsekar is a dummy CM, Parrikar holds dual charge’

Panaji: Nawab Malik , recently appointed as central observer of NCP Goa, called Goa's chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar a 'dummy CM' saying defence minister Manohar Parrikar was pulling all the strings.
"He (Parsekar) has the capacity to run the government, but Parrikar is controlling from Delhi," Malik told mediapersons. Parrikar holds dual charge - of the Goa government besides being the defence minister and to fulfill that he comes almost every weekend to Goa, Malik said mocking at the defence minister.
Malik met executive committee members of the party Tuesday evening and announced an all Goa Karya Karta Sammelan next week. Eight months down the line the party plans to strengthen its organization. "BJP's 'acche din' slogan is a myth and the party is making false assurances to people," Malik told presspersons on Tuesday.
In Goa, the party wants to join with any likeminded, secular parties to combat communal forces, saying its options were open. No talks of coalition are presently on with any of the parties, he admitted.
The party, he said, is presently focusing on raising issues at constituencies in the state. Malik's visit to Goa comes within three days of half the NCP office bearers including ex-tourism minister Nilkanth Halarnkar and senior vice president Trajano D'Mello leaving the party to join the Congress.
Altogether 11 office bearers and three prominent members of the party along with their supporters party jumped ship on Saturday.
They include Salim Sayed and Prakash Kalangutkar, both vice- presidents, Nazir Beig, general secretary, Ramakant Pandey, Pritam Shetgaonkar, Michael D'Souza, Peter Afonso and Milagres Cordeiro, secretaries and Arjun Aroskar, sevadal chairman and prominent NCP members Edmund Vaz, Amir Shirodkar and Salman Sayed.
