VASCO: The Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, on Monday, informed that the four projects proposed to be set up by the Ministry of Ayush in Goa, at an estimated cost of around Rs 200 crore, will provide a boost to the healthcare sector in the state.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana Kendra at Cottage Hospital, Chicalim.
The centre will benefit the people residing in four constituencies in the Mormugao taluka – Mormugao, Vasco, Dabolim and Cortalim.
The function was attended by Minister for Science and Technology Alina Saldanha, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Deepak Naik, deputy chairperson Shashikant Parab, Chicalim Sarpanch Prajyoti Kudalkar, deputy Sarpanch Kamlaprasad Yadav, MMC councillors Kritesh Gaonkar, Yatin Kamurlekar, Rochana Borker, Leo Rodrigues, Vandana Satardekar, Chicalim panch members Nilam Naik, Anita Vaz and others.
Speaking further, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the four projects, which have been proposed by the Ministry of Ayush in the state, include two 100-bedded Ayush centres in South and North Goa districts, a naturotherapy research centre and a regional ayurvedic research centre, which would cost nearly Rs 200 crore.
“The four projects have been proposed by Union Minister for State for Ayush Shripad Naik, and would definitely provide a boost to the healthcare sector in the state,” added D’Souza.
He further said that the state government has proposed to construct a multi-specialty 500 bedded hospital, estimated to cost of Rs 450 crore in the vicinity of Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Bambolim, and the foundation stone for the project is likely to be laid at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of August this year.
D’Souza, who is also the Health Minister, brushed aside the charges leveled by some opposition leaders about a scam in the recently launched Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana.
“Nobody has the right to make allegations over the scheme as it is in the interest of thousands of people,”he said.
“There might be some shortcomings in the scheme, but it will be wrong on the part of some political leaders to make allegations against me and also over the scheme,” he said.
Saldanha praised the Deputy Chief Minister D’Souza, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for bringing the DDSSY into a reality.
Vasco MLA said that DDSSY is a flagship scheme of the state government and it has been visualized only because of the efforts of Deputy Chief Minister D’Souza, Chief Minister Parsekar and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
