Did Vijai’s b’day bash create flutter in BJP, Cong camps?

Margao: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai seems to have kickstarted his election campaign on his birthday on June 14, with hundreds of voters, supporters, and well-wishers flocking to his residence to wish the birthday boy.
Prominent among them included fisheries minister and Navelim MLA (independent) Avertano Furtado and BJP's Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
Though BJP members have been asked by the party not to share public stage with opposition MLAs, the Calangute MLA did drop in to wish Sardesai.
For sometime, Lobo had been very critical of the BJP government for which he was summoned by the chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and also by the party bosses.
As reported by TOI , Lobo had earlier demanded ouster of five ministers saying that their inefficiency was giving a bad name to the party.
In this backdrop, Lobo's presence at Sardesai's residence surprised many BJP supporters especially the party's Fatorda leaders and might stir up a hornest's nest. He is already under the radar of the BJP leadership amidst speculations that he is not happy with the treatment being meted out to him especially after an FIR was filed against him.
His supporters recently questioned why a FIR was not promptly registered in the past on complaints filed against other MLAs or ministers for example tourism minister Dilip Parulekar.
Observers say it is unclear whether there is politics in the Navelim MLA making it for Sardesai's birthday. For some time now, president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Luizinho Faleiro and Sardesai have been shooting arrows at each other; Faleiro more by proxy. Members of Fatorda block Congress Committee, allegedly under the instructions of Faleiro, had tried to take a dig at Sardesai on the eve of his birthday.
While Faleiro is working against Sardesai in Fatorda, there's a possibility that the independent legislator could subtly support Furtado if the GPCC chief contests in Navelim unless there's rapproachment later.
Not surprisingly, two Congress legislators, former chief minister Digambar Kamat and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, attended the birthday bash. It is learnt that Kamat made a grand entrance with the municipal councillor and former chairperson and the latter brought along with him a lifesize garland.
Even as Goa Forward is promoting a candidate in Velim, Velim MLA Benjamin D'Silva was present for the birthday party. Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal were prominently seen. For Sardesai, it was a opportunity to score brownie points against his detractors in and outside the Congress.
