Former Goa Ranji player lodges fraud case against 3 GCA bosses

PANAJI: Even as the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of the Goa police is probing the alleged misappropriation of the GCA’s Rs 3.13 crore, there is another complaint lodged alleging a fraud of around Rs 5.87 crore by Chetan Desai, Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mulla.
Nilesh Prabhudesai, a former Goa Ranji cricket player on Monday lodged a complaint with the EOC alleging that Rs 5,87,22,055 has been misappropriated by the then executive committee members of the GCA. Prabhudesai has named Desai, Phadke and Mulla as suspects. The complaint is being examined, police said.
Prabhudesai in his complaint has requested the police to initiate inquiry into missing entry of Rs 5,87,22,055 in the balance sheet of GCA for financial year 2007-08 and 2008-09.
As per the audit report provided to the members of the GCA by Manickrao Patil (chartered accountant), an amount of Rs 5,87,22,055 which was paid by the BCCI dated March 31, 2008 is not reflecting in the balance sheet of GCA in the financial year 2007-08 and also 2008-09, the complainant has said.
“I have a strong feeling that this amount of Rs 5,87,22,055 has been misappropriated by the then executive committee members”, reads the complaint. Prabhudesai in his complaint has named Chetan Desai, Vinod Phadke and Akbar Mulla as suspects, who are currently in police custody for the alleged fraud of Rs 3.13 crore of the GCA.
According to the complainant, the said alleged cheque of Rs 5,87,22,055 is reflecting as payment to GCA but it is not reflecting in the received ledger of GCA and also in the balance sheet for the financial year 2007-08 and 2008-09.
