MARGAO: Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has been petitioned by South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar seeking swift intervention on the Brexit issues with a request to take up the matter with the UK administration on behalf of over 20,000 Goans residing in the UK.
“The UK decision to withdraw from EU has caused anxiety amongst Goans residing in UK as well as in Goa. In terms of the law as adopted and applicable in the State, many Goans have settled in EU countries for better job opportunities. It is estimated that around 20,000 Goans are residing in UK and that there is an apprehension that the Brexit decision may adversely affect them in terms of the employment and or/their stay in UK,” Sawaikar said in his letter to the External Affairs minister.
“I would seek your intervention in the matter with a request to you to kindly assure the Goan community in UK of their security and take up the matter with the UK administration,” he added.
