Panaji: Police will record the statement of the minor girl who was allegedly raped by St Cruz MLA Atanasio alias Babush Monserrate afresh. The survivor was hospitalized last week to be treated for depression.
Her statement will be recorded again after she is discharged from hospital, and declared fit by doctors, inspector general of police Sunil Garg told TOI. Monserrate has been out on bail while the girl was placed in the state-run protective home at Merces.
Garg said her statement is needed to appeal against the order of the lower court that granted bail to Monserrate.
Over a fortnight ago, directorate of prosecution had advised women police station investigating the case to file an appeal against the decision of the children's court in releasing Monserrate on bail.
