No poisoning case in Sada Sub jail, says inquiry

VASCO: The report on the suspected poisoning case inside the Sada Sub Jail ruled out any probability of such an incident taking place in the premises.
Just like the earlier case of Ravindra Velip’s alleged assault case at Sada remained inconclusive, the case of Milton George, who claimed to have been assaulted and poisoned inside the premises, was also denied by the inquiry report.
It may be recalled that Milton (28), a convict who was serving a six-month sentence at Sada Sub Jail, was hospitalised at GMC Bambolim on May 30, 2016 after complaining of being poisoned. Milton alleged that he was assaulted and poisoned by four jail inmates. He was later transferred to Colvale Jail on being discharged from the hospital after he feared for his life if he would be sent back to Sada.
Taking the alleged incident as serious, the Inspector General of Prison Elvis Gomes had ordered an inquiry headed by Assistant Jail Superintendent Bhanudas Pednekar. The inquiry report was tabled before IG prison on Wednesday.
“Although I have not yet gone into the details of the report, what I have gathered, however, is that the probability of such an incident as alleged by the victim is ruled out. Thus I will now place the report before the government. Since the police has taken cognizance of the incident and had started their investigations we would also forward a copy of the report to them,” Gomes told Herald.
Meanwhile it is learnt from reliable sources that Pednekar recorded the statement of over 10 persons, including the inmates who were lodged with George and also the jail staff who were present on the duty. Sources informed that the Jail authorities checked the CCTV footage and found no proof of George entering into the area where the alleged incident happened ruling out any possibility of such incident reported in the jail as mentioned by the victim.
