Regularisation of unauthorised structures: govt to table 2 bills

PANAJI: The government, during the forthcoming monsoon session of the state legislative assembly will table two bills instead of the single proposed bill pertaining to the regularisation of the unauthorised structures and encroachments in Goa prior to February 28, 2014. Coming out with this information, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza said that instead of tabling The Regularisation of Unauthorised Structures and Encroachments Bill, 2015, the government will present one bill as regards unauthorised structures and encroachments on government/ communidade lands, while another one pertaining to unauthorised structures and encroachments on private lands. “In fact, both these bills are ready for tabling in the House,” he said.
Stating the reason for enacting two legislations, D’Souza, who also holds the Revenue portfolio said that once the related Acts come into force, it is certain that some people would approach the court of law against them. “The government, therefore, did not want to enact a single legislation for the purpose and put all the eggs in one basket,” he said, adding that this is the reason why unauthorised structures and encroachments on government/ communidade lands are kept separate from those on the private lands.
The three-week monsoon session of the state legislative assembly is expected to be held in July 2016.
