Unreported income must be disclosed by Sept 30

PANAJI: The income tax department is on a drive to create awareness among eligible tax payers to take the opportunity to disclose unreported income during the financial year 2015-16 and earlier. Sources in the department warned that the last date to file undisclosed income was September 30 this year.

"The scheme offers a single-window opportunity to disclose income and also offers attractive immunity from scrutiny, penal or prosecution proceedings under the Income Tax Act, 1961. The compliance window is open till September 30 and the disclosure can either be filed online or before the principal commissioner of income tax," sources said.
The income tax Department at PANAJI, under the aegis of the principal commissioner of income tax, has already conducted meetings at Calangute, Panaji, Ponda and Vasco to create awareness about 'Income Disclosure2016' mooted by the Central Board of Direct Taxes, New Delhi. Similar meetings will be conducted in the coming days at various other places in Goa. Local businessmen also participated in the awareness drives.
