Angry locals stop LED bulb distribution at Sal

Bicholim: A group of around 60-70 locals from Sal, Bicholim, stopped the LED bulb distribution programme organized by BJP in protest against the electricity department due to frequent power cuts suffered by the village for a long time.

The trigger to the action was that the village went without power supply throughout Saturday night.
Angry residents demanded that BJP leaders solve the problem of power shortage first and then distribute the bulbs which are useful only when there is power. The mob also demanded that the government must take into confidence the local MLA and ZP member while, undertaking such programmes.
BJP had organized LED bulb distribution programme for Sal villagers on Monday. Over 1,000 people were in a queue near the village panchayat hall to receive the bulbs. Irked over the incident on Saturday night, locals also gathered near the programme venue to question BJP leaders about frequent power cuts. Speaker Anant Shet was the chief guest in the presence of Bicholim former MLA Rajesh Patnekar, Bicholim mandal BJP president Vallabh Salkar, Shilpa Naik and others.
Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal, Latambarcem ZP Sanjay Shetye, Sal sarpanch Ghanashyam Raut were also present near the programme venue along with their supporters.
