Board to recruit govt staff, says CM

PORVORIM: The Goa government will constitute a staff selection board to conduct recruitment for all common posts of government departments. The proposal for formation of staff selection board will be placed before the Goa cabinet in a week or two. A bill will be tabled in the ongoing session of the assembly.

"The staff selection board or commission that would be formed will conduct yearly tests for common posts of all government departments. The written test would be held yearly and will reduce hassles for candidates," chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar told the assembly on the first day of the monsoon on Monday. Parsekar made the statement during the question hour while replying to a question tabled by Benaulim MLA Caetano Silva.
Parsekar said whenever any department advertizes clerical or data entry operator posts, thousands of candidates apply, and inevitably they answer a written test every week.
To put an end to the misery of job aspirants of taking a test every time any department starts a recruitment process for clerical or data entry operator, selection will be carried out through the staff selection board. Silva alleged that non-Goans are being given preference over Goans in government posts.
He accused some ministers without naming them of giving jobs to people from their own constituencies and that meritorious candidates of other constituencies are sidelined.
Parsekar refuted the accusation saying his government does not discriminate between constituencies of those of the ruling and opposition. There is no question of denying jobs to Goans as the eligibility condition of 15 years of residence is strictly followed in the recruitment of government jobs.
