Cansaulim opposes doubling rail tracks

Cansaulim: Villagers from Cansaulim have opposed the doubling of the railway track, which passes through their village, citing reasons, especially a threat to their houses, some of which are heritage houses situated along the tracks.
Southwestern railway (SWR) authorities had called for an inspection along the route in Arossim, Cansaulim, Velsao and Sancoale from Cansaulim railway station. Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha also attended the inspection.
SWR authorities propose to lay four tracks at Cansaulim station, but villages criticized it, stating that it was unacceptable as their houses would have to be demolished. "We will resist the proposal tooth and nail," a villager said.
Villagers led by Dr Marconi Correia brought to the notice of the SWR authorities that they had failed to provide necessary safety for villagers to cross the tracks when the line had been converted from metre gauge to broad gauge. The road overbridge at the level crossing is a major bottleneck on the major district road at Arossim-Cansaulim. Requests for a simple pedestrian overbridge was also refused, they pointed out.
