Panel’s report awaited before deciding on MOI: Parsekar

Panaji: Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday said his government would take a decision on the medium of instruction (MoI) imbroglio after considering the recommendations of the 17-member advisory committee.

The goverment had declared the formation of an advisory committee to study the MoI issue last week.
The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) and Forum for Rights of Children to Education (FORCE) have opposed the government's recent proposals to resolve the MoI issue.
"If someone says they don't recognize the committee, then they should not stop the work undertaken," Parsekar told reporters.
The chief minister stated that the committee has to study the subject and submit a detailed report before the government takes a decision on the MOI issue.
"I can understand that the cabinet has to take a decision, but to take a decision we need a base. This committee will provide the information needed to help us decide," Parsekar added.
BBSM members on Thursday alleged that the government had not sought the consent of its two members, Anil Samant and Madhav Kamat, before appointing them to the committee.
Parsekar also said that the consent was taken before they were appointed on committee.
