Govt employees' children should study in govt primary schools: Wagh

PORVORIM: Deputy Speaker Vishnu Surya Wagh on Tuesday said that government should make it compulsory for all its employees and teachers to admit their children to government primary schools (GPS) and not in private primary schools in a bid to improve their standard.

Wagh also urged the government to consider seriously in allowing schools that had shifted from Konkani medium to English medium to teach in Roman script, which would solve most issues.
Taking part in a general budget discussion in Goa ssembly, Wagh said that casinos have brought a bad name to the state. Further, he along with people from St Andre constituency will oppose the casino being set up at a starred hotel Grand Hyatt at Bambolim.
Wagh urged the government to extend the special grants scheme to the students in Kannada and Urdu primary schools.
While many members in the House spoke about the bad conditions of government primary schools, Wagh said that government should try to find out the reason behind the same. "Government should conduct a survey to find out where children of government school teachers study. If they want to teach in government primary schools then which schools do they admit their children," he asked.
