Iron out land acquisition laws: Speaker to govt

Speaker Anant Shet has requested the government to smoothen land acquisition laws and end problems related to land acquisitions. The speaker made the statement during Question Hour after some members pointed out about delayed projects.
In reference to a question raised by St Cruz MLA Atanasio Monserrate alias 'Babush' about delay in the completion of the Taleigao-St Cruz bypass road, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the process of land acquisition has been blocked due to prevailing conditions. He said that rules have been framed to activate processes for land acquisition, but that MLAs will also have to take the initiative in their respective constituencies for land acquisition.
Solid waste management corporation bill awaits cabinet nod: The solid waste management corporation bill has been put up for cabinet approval, minister for science and technology Alina Saldanha, told the assembly on Tuesday, in reply to a question by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo.
Uncap non-planned expenditure, Sardesai tells PWD minister: PWD minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar alias Sudin came under fire from the opposition during Question Hour on Tuesday, over the delays in carrying out non-planned works in their constituencies. Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai who raised the question, demanded that non-plan expenditure be hiked. Dhavalikar said non-plan expenditure has been capped at 2 crore per constituency and the reason being fiscal management. Sardesai alleged that bills of Goan contractors are left pending and demanded a change in the system of payment of bills. The PWD minister refuted the allegations.
Water treatment plant for Panaji likely in March 2017: The work of 27 MLD water treatment plant for Panaji started under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) will be probably commissioned by March-end, 2017. PWD minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar alias Sudin told the Goa legislative assembly during 'Question Hour' on Tuesday. The question was tabled by Panaji MLA Sidharth Kuncalienkar. Panaji will get 24x7 water supply. Dhavalikar said physical progress on the project, till date, has been 65%.
