Panaji: Defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday met Datta Naik, father of secretary, AAP, Goa, Valmiki Naik, but when reporters tried to ask questions about his visit, Valmiki left the press conference in a huff.
While the outcome of the meeting is not known, Valmiki told a press conference on Sunday morning, "Nothing will change my resolve to oppose and defeat the corrupt, the arrogant and incompetent BJP government in Goa." "Despite political and ideological differences, I hope Parrikar will continue to visit my family where he would be welcomed in true Goan hospitality," he added.
BJP sources said that Datta was a strong BJP supporter between 1980 and 1990. On July 3, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar had said he was convinced that the entry of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the poll fray for the assembly elections would help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in forming the government for a second consecutive term. Opposition parties have already said that AAP is the 'B' team of BJP in the state.
"Noted industrialist Shrinivas Dempo, who happens to be my second cousin, informed my family, that he will also be visiting my father on Sunday," said Valmiki.
Making a point that he will not be present at the meeting, Valmiki said, "This meeting may be happening right now as we speak. My father is not well, he suffers from dementia, symptoms of Alzheimer and he remains under heavy medication. Despite this, I appreciate the concern of Parrikar to visit my father and that he is willing to come to a house where a political opponent resides in," he added.
"I thank Parrikar for his visit today to my father and I urge the Modi government to take some lessons from Parrikar and learn to extend similar courtesy to the AAP government in Delhi," he said.
