Mapusa: The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) - a forum demanding regional languages as the medium of instruction (MoI) - has decided to hold a public meeting at Mapusa in support of their demands.
The BBSM will organize the meeting at Hanuman Natyagraha at Mapusa on Saturday evening.
The BBSM's coordinators for Bardez and Pernem, on Thursday, said that its leaders would address the meeting. Subhash Velingkar, Uday Bhembre, Arvind Bhatikar, Swati Kerkar, Subhash Dessai, Fr Mousinho Ataide, Nagesh Karmali and Pandurang Nadkarni are expected to be present at the meeting.
BBSM leaders from Bardez claimed that it had contacted over 7,000-8,000 people from its taluka through pamphlets and it has organized over 50 corner meetings across Bardez and contacted people by door-to-door visits.
BBSM coordinators said that more than 25 institutions, including temples, schools, PTAs, religious and social organizations have extended their support to the manch in its agitation.
The BBSM has been organizing public meetings against the government's decision to provide grants to English medium schools .
