Commuters ‘inaugurate’ concrete road

Panaji: Fed up of being at the receiving end of two-and-a-half years of dust, traffic congestion and overall misery, commuters and residents taking matters into their own hands, decided to throw open the Miramar-Dona Paula road for traffic barely had the concretization work been completed, even as Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation continues to work on other aspects of the project.

Such was the rejoicing over the completion of the road, that a high ranking professional suggested that "it was time to uncork the champagne". Much to the consternation and bafflement of residents and planners, Goa state infrastructure development corporation GSIDC decided to dig up the near perfect road from Miramar circle to Dona Paula on February 27, 2014.
"My daughter studies in Sharada Mandir school and for the last couple of years our life has been living hell," Dona Paula resident Rosy Dias said of the several years it took the GSIDC to complete the project. The erstwhile four-lane highway will now be a three-lane carriageway, the rest of the space will be used for a cycle track and a footpath for pedestrians and joggers.
MVR Infra Projects, the contractor for the 72-crore project, will continue to install the paver blocks.
