Vasco: Deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza announced during the 57th birthday celebration of Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday evening that in Godinho, "the BJP and the people have got a perfect match".
D'Souza had visited Chicalim to inaugurate the new panchayat house of Chicalim panchayat. D'Souza said, "Things can go well only when there is harmony between the government and the MLA, and both want to work for the public".
He said, "The party (BJP) as well as you all have found the man", indicating very clearly that Godinho would be the party's nominee for the 2017 polls. The deputy chief minister had to be the chief guest as the defence minister Manohar Parrikar, who was to do the honours couldn't make it. Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar couldn't make it as the assembly session continued till beyond 10 pm. D'Souza appealed to the public, who had gathered in large numbers, to celebrate Godinho's birthday, to support him and stand by his side and make him win the upcoming assembly election for the sixth time. On the other hand, Godinho, while explaining his "bad time" with the Congress said, "The Congress always discouraged all the possible developmental projects which were proposed by me. All they did was lie to the public".
He further added, "but, in spite of being from the opposition, the BJP always supported all developmental projects irrespective of the MLA and the party he belongs to."
Godinho assured that the under-renovation cottage hospital will be a sub-district hospital for the benefit of the people of Mormugao taluka and would be completed during his tenure. The construction of the panchayat complex building is being done in a plot of area 11,700 sqm located at Chicalim. The building includes offices of talathi, secretary, club house, MLA's office, health department, sarpanch's office, storage room and multi- purpose hall with green rooms, post office, electricity department and gymnasium, village library and vocational training. The total built up area is 1,112 sqm. The total cost of the project is 7.1 crore.
