PANAJI: The chief minister of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar told state Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, that escort services and prostitution are being professionally run via internet. Since 2013, he said 106 raids were conducted and FIRs filed, in a written reply to a question tabled by Margao MLA, Digambar Kamat during 'question hour' on Tuesday.
He said 32 cases are pending trial, 67 cases are under investigation, and an acquittal in one case. The Cyber Crime Police Station which is assisting the investigation with technical data, has written to Computer Emergency Response Team - India(CERT-in) at New Delhi in the past, requesting to block sites and disable key word search through search engines with keywords "Goa escort", "escort service in Goa" and "escort Goa."
"The contact numbers and email addresses published on the escort sites are analyzed, the ownership established and the data is shared with crime branch for further action. The Cyber Crime Police Station is empowered to registered cases only under IT Act and Intellectual property rights related cases. The cases under ITP Act are not registered at Cyber Crime police station," said Parsekar.
